Safety

Our number one priority

Safety 2018-09-06T09:43:50+00:00

We believe providing a safe working environment is our obligation. By making work place safety a top priority, we continue to take a proactive approach in engaging our employees in the “work safe” attitude held by our entire organization.

Our commitment to a safe work environment has led to outstanding performance, including over 2 million labor hours with no lost time in accidents. This is more than 6 times the nationwide average for construction companies, which is under 150,000 hours.

Hometown is dedicated to the safety and health of our employees, subcontractors, and clients.

Our entire organization is committed to creating the safest possible work environment on each job, from start to finish. We believe the only acceptable level of injuries is zero.

Achievements

Our main concern is fostering a safe working environment so our employees can return home safely each night. It is an honor when our efforts and innovation are acknowledged by industry professionals.

Over the years, Hometown Plumbing & Heating has a rich history of safety awards and accomplishments:

  • 2017 Award of Honor (top within our captive for safety)
  • ABC STEP certified 2013 – 2018
  • Over 2 million man hours worked without a lost time injury (1999 – 2011)
  • Over 1 million man hours worked without a lost time injury (2011 – present)

Zero Accident Climate

To achieve a “zero accident climate”, we strive to continuously improve our safety processes, require individual accountability, and promote a safe working environment at all times.

We expect all employees to be mindful of potential hazards, adhere to our safety standards, and actively participate in and support the advancement of our safety and health practices.

Developing a culture centered around working safely has been our goal from day one. At the end of each day, the most important achievement is sending our employees home safely to their families.

ABC SAFETY TRAINING EVALUATION PROCESS (STEP)

ABC’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) is a bench marking and improvement tool that dramatically improves safety performance among construction industry participants regardless of the company size or type of work.

Established in 1989, STEP was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. Participating ABC member firms measure their processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce job site incident rates.

Hometown Plumbing & Heating has a rich history with ABC’s STEP program. We understand the impact of STEP participation on overall performance and adhere to the guidelines set forth in the program. On average, participating STEP members see an 87% reduction in Total Recordable Incident Rates (TRIR).

The most important achievement at the end of each day is that our employees return home safely to their families. Our recognition and participation as a STEP member helps us reach this goal.
